UTD Professor Dr. Mandy Maguire will be giving a presentation titled

"Using Neuroscience to Help Improve the Lives (and Parks) of Children From Low Income Neighborhoods"

Demystifying Scientific Articles Workshop I

Are you interested in Journal Clubs but have hesitations about presenting one yourself? Are you intimidated by reading scientific research? Do you want advice on how to write or help prepare for a Lab Methods class? Well, we have a series of 3 workshops to help you with those problems!

You might recognize Kira Mills from one of her Journal Clubs, as a TA, or as a friend, and if not, she's a Chemistry Ph.D. student here at UTD, that has dedicated much of her undergraduate, graduate, and personal life to scientific communication. She has graciously offered her services to provide that little bit of help to demystify scientific articles.

3 Workshops / 3 Topics / 3 weeks.

Everyone likes learning, and NSA encourages its members to take every opportunity to attend UTD's multitude of seminars. Most seminars are geared towards academics within the domain of study, but at Quenching Curiosity you have a chance to watch a seminar geared towards a general audience AND you can ask whatever silly questions your heart desires!

Just put your name and email on the back of your trivia card to get credit for attending

Electrons are antisocial. They like to be left alone and don’t like to share space, but, once they come out of their shells, they can make beautiful crystals like those used in solar cells, lasers, and telescopes. Join us as graduate student Ashley Weiland discusses her work to understand how crystals grow and explains why it is so important to technology that they do.

Please note the date - this will be held on the third Wednesday of the month (January 15) instead of our usual second.

Playhouse to Powerhouse: How Black Theatres Institutionalized the Black Power Movement

The impact of the Black Power Movement between 1960 and 1980 includes a sharp rise in the number of black theaters. These institutes became the heart of the movement and persist as one of the lasting sites of embodied Black Power. Hear graduate student Kerry Goldmann discuss her work focusing on three theaters in Houston, TX, Oakland, CA, and New York City.
